Many chip companies in Taiwan experience power drop failures

2022-03-03
According to Taiwan Economic Daily, on the afternoon of March 1, a large-scale power drop occurred at 15:18 in Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park, which occurred in less than a second. The incident was caused by the tripping failure of the main transformer of the wafer foundry Power Semiconductor. The fault has affected Limechanical and nearby TSMC, World Advanced and AUO, covering the two major fields of semiconductors and optoelectronics. The actual losses are still to be checked.

The report quoted the statements of related companies. LiSMC said the company was in the process of finding out the cause. Due to the rapid restart of the machine, the impact on production was limited. World Advanced is still confirming the actual impact. AUO resumed normal operations on Tuesday night, after some machines were previously affected by voltage drops. UMC said its operations were not affected. TSMC said that the power drop incident on March 1 had no impact on the company's operations.
