2022-03-31
Liu Deyin, chairman of TSMC, said today regarding the recent blockade and control measures in Shanghai, that the demand for mobile phones, computers and TVs has been affected; however, the TSMC Shanghai plant is still operating, and the capital expenditure and operating outlook remain unchanged.

Liu Deyin attended the General Assembly of the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association today. In an interview, he said that Shanghai's zoning and control measures due to the heating up of the epidemic have seen an impact on the demand for smartphones, as well as the demand for computers and TVs. However, demand for automotive, high-performance computing and the Internet of Things remains strong. He said that TSMC's Shanghai plant was notified in advance and pre-deployed personnel to maintain operations.

Liu Deyin said that due to strong technological competitiveness, TSMC's capital expenditure and operating outlook will remain unchanged. In the past two years, the demand has exceeded the capacity it can provide. At present, it will only adjust the priority according to changes in demand.
