Microsoft re-emphasizes: IE browser will be retired on June 15 this year and will be fully transformed to Microsoft Edge

2022-03-21
Microsoft once again emphasized that the Internet Explorer browser will be completely phased out in 2022, and the IE retirement deadline is set on June 15, 2022. Microsoft issued the warning through Windows Message Center to underscore the urgency for users to make a full transition to Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft says that, as previously announced, the future of IE on Windows is in Microsoft Edge, and IE Mode will provide traditional browser support within Microsoft Edge. Because of this, the Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop app for some versions of Windows 10 will be retired on June 15, 2022. This means that the IE11 desktop app will no longer be supported, after which users will be redirected to Microsoft Edge if they try to use it.

Microsoft first announced plans to drop support for Windows 10 and the Internet Explorer 11 web browser in Microsoft 365 in August 2020. Microsoft discontinued IE support in Teams on November 30, 2020. On August 17, 2021, Microsoft also ended support for Internet Explorer across Microsoft 365 apps and services.
